TREKKING CLOTHING
|
|
Trekking clothing is very important.
Before going I always think about that. The most important thing for me it's to be light. To save weight. I don't like to be overcharged. Of course if you go in Expedition you always need something more but for a day trekking or a 2 days trekking I like to take with me the minimum
WINTER:
During the winter of course you need something more. Goretex is very important. Goretex Jacket and Trousers in case of Rain.
BE CAREFUL! 80% of the time the humidity problem doesn't come from outside but from inside so...good clothing are very important but you have to know how to use them
If I go trekking very fast and I start to sweat, of course the humidity of my body that meet the Goretex Jacket won't be able to get out fast....if the rain comes and the temperature drops a little bit that humidity will become condense and my body will be completly wet, even if I have a super good Goretex Jacket....cause the humidity is coming from inside and not from outside...same thing with the boats.
That could be a problem in a short trekking but during a mountain expedition could be very dangerous!
Keep your Heart Freq. not too high (if you are not a skyrunner during a competition) Control your sweat.
What to do?
Use a quick dry and High Breathable T shirt. If you are in a cold place you can use a Long Shirt in technical wool (like Omnitherm)
Same thing for your legs and then the Goretex. When you hike you produce warm so your body cannot be too much covered. Not too much clothes or you sweat and then you'll have some problems. When you stop you have to put some more clothes.
HANDS: There are a lot of good gloves...but if it's very cold, use some gloves in silk on your skin and then dress some other gloves above them. The silk keeps the warm very well.
HAT: Your head lose the 30% of the body warm so...it's very important to use a god hat. Wool first is the best solution
ONION: Dress like an "Onion"...Clothing keeps your body at a relatively constant temperature. When the weather is cold and wet, clothing serves to help you retain body heat by trapping air and by keeping wind and water out. No clothing warms you. It only insulates. Thus, in colder temperatures thicker, or more, layers are needed.
Layers of clothing keep you warm by trapping dead air between them. Also, they allow for flexibility in keeping the body at a comfortable temperature by letting you add and subract layers thereby preventing over-heating and heavy sweating
BASE LAYER - WICKING: Cover the entire body once with a thin layer of polypropylene, silk or wool to wick (transport) moisture away form the skin: Socks, long undies, glove liners, balaclava.
LAYER 2 - INSULATION & VENTILATION: Add a medium weight layer of insulation ( Usually wool or pile or polypropylene) to retain body hear: Socks, pile jackets and pants, mittens, hats.
LAYER 3 - INSULATION & VENTILATION: Add another medium to thick layer of insulation for extreme cold or rest periods: Use wool, synthetic pile, down or synthetic fiber fill: pants, jacket.
LAYER 4 - RAIN & WIND PROTECTION: Protect your insulation from water and wind and snow with an outer protective shell of Gore-Tex, or coated nylon.
