ERICE - Where the Time seems to be stopped

TRAPANI  AREA: Marsala,Castellammare del Golfo, Erice, Belice (Ghost Towns) , Levanzo Island ,

Erice is considered to be of Elymian origin, although the earliest settlement on the mountain was probably established by the Sicans in ancient times.

According to legend, Erice, the son of Venus and Neptune, founded a small town on top of a mountain (750 Meters above sea level) more than three thousand years ago. Thucydides (~500 B.C.) said that the Elymi - the founders of Erice - were survivors of the destruction of Troy. Ancients historians agreed that Erice was the oldest city in Europe

The Chiesa Madrice is a church of fourteenth century origin. beside it is a powerful battlemented tower pierced by lancet windows.
