A very nice trekking. Pity that it was a bit raining and foggy. We got Piano Provenzana (Etna North) at 11 a.m. Then we started our first easy day trek to the Rifugio Timparossa.
The first path is quiet clear cause is the same that the guides do with their 4X4 Tracks....after about 15 minutes there is a small junction and it's well indicated the direction to the Rifugio Timparossa
In this picture you can see the signal. Ok, that day it was quite foggy :o)
First Day
You start the trek there...the first part is very clear than it's less marked but after a few minutes you'll see the Monte Nero in front of you...you have to fo behind Monte Nero so you can turn around it on the right (Up) or on the left (Down). In the map here, I put the Upside trek.
Finally we got the Rifugio Timparossa. It's really nice...there was just alice and me...so...it was like to have our private chalet :o) We ate something first and then we took the wood (which is in another small hut behind the main one) to make the fire to cook and to warm the Rifugio Timparossa. It was a bit hard cause the wood was a bit wet but...we got it!! :o) Then we had a small walk to take some pictures...the colors of the Autumn are wonderful!!! the dinner was great....we grilled some meat in the nights....and then....time to sleep cause the plan was...wake up at 5 .30 a.m. So....sleeeeeep!!!!!....after about 3 hours sleeping I started to hear some strange noise...I turned on the lamp but i didn't see anything so....I sitched it off and I tried to sleep again but...15 minutes later...again!!!...well...I looked and there was a mini mouse that was looking for some food!! :o)) poor...when it saw my lamp again made himself even smaller and wun out through a very small hole...Well...We spent most of the night with the noise of our new small friend ;o)

Second Day
At 5.30 .m. it was raining so...no possible to go. It's very dangerous to hike with the rain on the volcanoes...so...do that only if you have no choice cause the % of metals on the sole is very high and it catch the lightenings very very easily. So, at least if you don't like the Fantastic 4 and the Idea to become like "Torch Man"...stay on the dry when it's raining ;o) Our departure time was postoned at 10.30 (a bit late!!!)...The hike to the Grotta dei Lamponi and Grotta del Gelo is not difficult and you can find several marks (Watch out...NO with high snow cause the marks are often on the ground!) Grotta dei Lamponi is long and nice...To get Grotta Aci you NEED a rope. Grotta del Gelo at 2.040 mt it's the only Cave 12 months per year which is icy. this time we didn't need the crampons cause there was no much ice...so we could get the end of the cave...Really dark!
The way to Monte Pizzillo from Grotta del Gelo is more difficult cause it's not well marked so...do it only if the weather is very good and it youm are some good hikers with some good legs.
