It was my best experience as Guide with a Fantastic Group of young and brave guys!! The Xghajra Scout-Group South District of Malta
A very beautiful long, hard and adventurous hike.
1st Day: With 19Kg/24 Kg Backpacks we started from Rifugio Citelli and we got the Rifugio Timparossa. Mostly we didn't follow the regular path so it was harder cause the ascent on the sandy Lava!
That day we hiked 11 km and about 470 mt ascent.
Then we prepared our base camp next to Rifugio Timparossa. We made a fire and we cook for our Dinner.
2nd Day: Wake up at 6 than Breakfast and we start our long hike to the North East Craters. It's the most difficult one cause of the wind and the Ice!
Strong wind and snow...it was difficult to hike ....but we got it!! The guys were very strong and finally we got the top. Then we got back and hike with the dark! 24 Km and 1850 mt ascent
3rd Day : Very bad weather. Strong wind and rain!
To the Caves. 10 Km and 1.010 mt ascent
Way Back to Piano Provenzana...After the lunch inside the Rifugio Timparossa at 3 p.m. we moved back to Piano Provenzana. 80 Km/h wind and strong Rain and Hail. We lost the path cause we couldn't pass because of the wind so we had to turn around. The guys kept their calm...I am proud of them...Finally with the dark we got the last part of the path and under the strong rain with the dark we got back to Piano Provenzana!!!
